This exhibition presented untill the 16th of September 2012 at the Arts Décoratifs in Paris reveals the story of two personalities, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs (creative director of Louis Vuitton) and their contributions to the world of fashion. How did they take part in their respective time to innovate and advance an entire industry? How these two men, with their own language, would take phenomena and cultural codes in order to write the history of fashion?
Analytic Rather than retrospective , this comparison between Vuitton & Jacobs provides insights into the fashion system during these two periods are hinges of industrialization of the late nineteenth century and the globalization of the early twenty-first century. Are discussed crafts, technical advances, the stylistic and creative artistic collaborations. Deployed on two levels, each floor dedicated to one of the creators in a scenography of Sam Gainsbury and Joseph Bennett. The Louis Vuitton suitcases are presented in relation to the collections and fashion accessories of the nineteenth century the museum on the first floor, while a selection of the most iconic models designed by Marc Jacobs, for the last 15 years, is exhibited on the second floor.
